Staten Island Arts [Council] - Staten Island Exhibits, Galleries & Art Museums
Description. This is a non-profit arts council that tries to make art & culture accessible, to encourage artistic and cultural development through financial and technical programs and help publicize artistic achievements. They were formerly known at the Council on the Arts and Humanities on Staten Island.

Alice Austen House - Staten Island Art Galleries & Museums
The Alice Austen House hosts arts & community gatherings regularly
Description. The Alice Austen House was the home of Alice Austen, one of the earliest female professional photographers, who was born in 1866 and lived most of her life here. The house is also one of the oldest on Staten Island, as it was built in 1690. The Alice Austen House hosts photo and other art exhibits.

Description. Snug Harbor is one of Staten Island's premier cultural centers. It's a large complex located on the northern tip of the island, not far west of St. Georges Ferry Terminal. Snug Harbor is home to the Staten Island Museum, the Newhouse Center for Contemporary Art, the Noble Martime Collection, the Staten Island Children's Museum, the Collumcille Irish Cultural Center and several separate buildings which are open on a limited basis, including the Governor's House, the Veterans' Memorial Hall and the World Trade Center Educational Tribute.

Description. St George Theatre first opened in 1929, having cost $2 million to build it and an adjoining office complex. First opened as a movie theater, it is now something of a performing arts center for Staten Island, with most of the shows being musical or dance, but theatrical performances are also presented there.

Staten Island History
Description. The 911 Memorial is a few blocks walk west of the St. George Ferry Terminal. It commemorates those who died in the World Trade Center attack on September 11, 2001.
Location. The 911 Memorial is located between the Richmond County Stadium and the New York Harbor, just north and west / behind the stadium. It's out doors and open 24 / 7.
Historic Richmond Town - Historic Sites to See on Staten Island
Staten Island History
Description. Historic Richmond Town is located roughly in the northern / middle section of Staten Island and is a very small town with some colonial and Civil War buildings. They host exhibits, walking tours and a couple of festivals in the Spring - Fall time of year.
Location. There's a holiday celebration in Historic Richmond Town at Center Street at Court Place on Staten Island.

Conference House - Tottenville - SI Things to do

Description. The Conference House is an historic site where Benjamin Franklin met with the British to try to avoid the American Revolutionary War. The negotiations were unsuccessful, but the place where they met still stands.

Fort Wadsworth Museum - near the Verrazzano Bridge on Staten Island
The Fort Wadsworth Museum - Historic Sites on SI
Description. The Fort Wadsworth Museum is an historical site dating back to 1779 at which time the British held it through to the end of the American Revolutionary War. The National Park Service says this about the fort,
"Fort Wadsworth is one of the oldest military installations in the nation. The site occupies 226 acres on the northeastern shore of Staten Island, on the Narrows of New York Harbor. Rich in history and natural beauty, Fort Wadsworth affords you the opportunity to observe an important part of our nation's history, while offering magnificent views of New York Harbor."
Location. The Fort Wadsworth Museum is located at 201 New York Avenue in the Fort Wadsworth neighborhood of Staten Island.

National Lighthouse Museum on Staten Island
Visit a Museum about the Lighthouses and their Keepers
Description. This is a fairly new museum established in 2015 to tell the tale about lighthouses and their keepers. It is on the former site of the U.S. Lighthouse Service.
Location. National Lighthouse Museum is located at 200 Promenade, which is a couple block walk east along the waterfront from the Staten Island Ferry Terminal.

Garibaldi Meucci Museum on Staten Island

Discussion of a new book about an American's trip to Tuscany for a cooking class. D'amore ensues.
Description. The Garibaldi Meucci Museum is a centuries old home that was the abode of a great Italian inventor who is arguably one of the inventors of the telephone - Antonio Meucci. He was host to Guisseppe Garibaldi, a military general and strategist, who is credited with unifying Italy in the mid 1800's. The home has been preserved with the help of an Italian association.
