Sunrise 5.54 am. Sunset 7.52 pm. We're getting 13 hours & 59 minutes of sunlight, or four hours and 46 minutes more of sunlight than we were getting the week of the Winter Solstice, on December 21, 2025 when the sun rose at 7.18 am and the sun set at 4.31 pm. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of this year, providing 9 hours and 13 minutes of sunlight in NYC.
NYC Weather - NYC Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts. The temperature highs will be around 60 on all three days of the weekend. The temperature lows will be in the high 40's on all three weekend days. There's a 40% chance of a bit of rain around 3 - 4 am Saturday, but otherwise a rain-free weekend. The humidity will range from 40% to 70% on Friday, and between 40% and 90% on Saturday, and from 30% to 70% on Sunday. Winds are expected to range from 5 to 10 mph Friday, average about 5 mph Saturday and kick up to 5 to 15 mph on Sunday.

Friday, Saturday & Sunday, May 1, 2 & 3, 2026 at various locations & times but generally from 10 am to 5 pm - Janes Walk Weekend - at 200 locations in all five boroughs. Various art, culture, history, advocacy and architectural tours throughout all five boros of NYC. Free. They describe the event as follows, " ... MAS staff organize a fleet of volunteer walk leaders, to create 200+ FREE, in-person, virtual, and on-demand walks with over 10,000 participants ... During Jane’s Walk NYC weekend, the simple act of exploring the city is enhanced with personal observations, local history, and civic engagement."... Organized by the Municipal Art Society. Sunday, May 3, 2026 waves begin at 7.30, 8.30, 9.15, 9.50 and 10.30 am & officially over between 4 and 6 pm - 5 Boro Bike Ride. Assembly begins along Broaday, south of Canal Street down to Battery Park in Manhattan, depending on the cyclist wave folks are in. The course is 40 miles long, and most of the 32,000 cyclists finish in under 5 hours. It ends at Fort Wadsworth on Staten Island, where there's a finishing party that runs from 10 am to 5.30 pm. Saturday, June 13, 2026 is the last day you'll be able to Register to Vote in the NYC Primary on June 23, 2026. Applications must be received by the NY Board of Elections to be eligible to vote in this election.

Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 12 noon to 10 pm - Stone Street Cinco de Mayo Festival - in the Stone Street Historic District along Stone Street between William Street and Coentis Alley in the Financial District in Manhattan NYC. This is an food, beverage and entertainment street fair - not a traditional merchandise street fair. Free to enter. For details see - https://www.stonestreetnyc.com
Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 11.30 am Assembly / 12 noon kick off / 2pm to 6 pm - 54th Annual Cannabis Parade & After Party - the parade meets under the Arch in Washington Square and then at 12 noon, marches north up 5th Avenue to Union Square Park at 14th Street. After the parade until 6 pm there's a rally and concert in Union Square. Prior to legalization there was an after party, after the after party, also in Union Square Park which lasted until about 11 pm.

Monday, May 4, 2026 from 6 to 9 pm - Met Gala - at the Metropolitan Museum of Art at 5th Avenue & 82nd Street on the UES of Manhattan. This year the theme is Costume Art, focusing on how history influences fashion and art. This is a billionaire, celebrity, high society fashion event that raises funds to support the Metropolitan Museum. By invitation only and the ticket price in 2025 was $50,000 per person. The gala event coincides with the opening of the Conde M. Nast galleries. Conde Nast publishes Vogue, GQ, the New Yorker and Vanity Fair. Tuesday, May 5, 2026 from 12 noon to 3 pm - Cinco de Mayo Parade - begins at Central Park West and 96th and marches up to 106th Street in West Harlem. Parades on the UWS to West Harlem.
Wednesday thru Tuesday, May 6 - 12, 2026 at various times - 33rd Annual New York African Film Festival - at Lincoln Center on the UWS of Manhattan. Tickets range from $16 / $19 and all Festival Passes for $65 / $89. They describe the event as follows, " ... showcasing African and Diaspora filmmakers’ unique storytelling through the moving image ... Saturday, May 2, 2026 beginning at 12.30 pm - Steve Cohen CitiField Flushing Casino Town Hall Rally - outside of PS 149 at 93-11 34th Avenue Open Streets in Corona. The rally had been scheduled to be held inside, but very suspiciously, at the last minute - on Wednesday, April 29th, 2026 - the organizers were informed that the school was to be closed over the weekend for an asbestos examination.
Sunday, May 3, 2026 - Cinco de Mayo Concert - at Kupferberg Center at Queens College in Flushing.
Saturdays & a Sunday, April 18, 26 & May 2 & 16, 2026 beginning from 2 to 5 pm - Sunnyside Rhythm Block - at the Sunnyside Arch at Queens Blvd & 46th Street in Sunnyside Queens. Friday - Sunday, May 1 - 17, 2026 - Bronx Weeks - returns with a parade, festival and other activities. In early April there was an announcement that it was going to be discontinued. Following the announcement, community leaders organized to ensure its continuation. Bronx Week opened today, with events on many days of the two week long event. The biggest events fall on the final weekend, 5/16 & 5/17 including a Ball, a parade and a fair. We'll have more as we approach each weekend.
