8.21.26 _ Sunrise 6.12 am. Sunset 7.45 pm. We're getting 13 hours & 32 minutes of sunlight, or four hours and 19 minutes more of sunlight than we were getting the week of the Winter Solstice, on December 21, 2025 when the sun rose at 7.18 am and the sun set at 4.31 pm. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of this year, providing 9 hours and 13 minutes of sunlight in NYC.

8.21.26 _ NYC Weather - NYC Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts. Most of the weekend is dry, but Sunday morning between the hours of 7 and 10 am, there's a 70% chance of about 1/3 to 1/2 inch of precipitation. The humidity finally seems to be coming back down, as on Friday and Saturday it ranges from 60% to 70%, but rising Sunday morning to 90% by 9 am, before falling again into the 65% range by midafternoon. The temperature highs will be in the high 70's / low 80's all weekend. The temperature lows will be in the low to mid 70's all weekend. The winds will be in the 5 - 10 mph range all weekend.

The photo above or at right was taken in a prior year, while cycling over the Kosciuszko Bridge, which traverses Newtown Creek along the Queens Brooklyn border. This area had been an heavy industry location for between one and two centuries, and as such, had been environmentally abused by private industry over the same period. Efforts are underway to rehabilitate it ecologically, as developers hope to cash in on its transformation, by getting the public to pay for the clean up, while the developers privatize the profits as the area changes.

- NYC _ Saturday, March 29, 2025 beginning shortly after sunrise there's a 'Partial' Solar Eclipse in NYC. The peak darkening period may be missed as it is only a partial in the morning after sunrise. Be sure to take proper precautions 1) in evaluating any eyewear you use to view it, and 2) if you do view it, do so briefly, as staring at the sun can cause severe eye damage. The NY Public Library is handing out free solar eclipse glasses. The next total eclipse of the sun is May 1, 2079 - so don't hold your breath.

Wednesday - Sunday, August 19 - 23, 2026, during pub hours - Mor Fest / 1st Annual Irish Festival - at Tara Mor, an Irish pub at 150 West 30th Street [off 7th Avenue] in Midtown. it's billed as an authentic Irish festival, which they tell us includes entertainers, musicians, food, drink and arts & crafts for purchase. $55 festival fee for all five days [no single day passes]. Sunday, August 23, 2026 from 10 am to 1 pm - The Battle of Brooklyn Revolutionary War Commemoration - at 500 West 25th Street at 5th Avenue which is one of the main entrances to the Greenwood Cemetery. There are theatrical re-enactmens of events that cover George Washington, the Dutch settlers and the Revolutionary War. The events are free with a suggested donation of $5 for the cemetery. The photo shows the Bronx River, the only fresh water body in the City of New York, which has been making a comeback after years of environmental effort, supported by local activists groups, the Bronx Zoo and the NY Botanical Garden.

The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of this year, providing 9 hours and 13 minutes of sunlight in NYC.

8.7.26 _ NYC Weather - NYC Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts. It's Friday evening and no precipitation in the forecast for the rest of the weekend. On Friday and Saturday overnights, the humidity rises to the maximums overnight. There will be nearly 100% humidity before 8 - 9 am on both Saturday and Sunday mornings, but then declining to a comfortable 60% and 40% in both afternoons, before rising again in the evenings. The temperature highs will be in the low 90's and the temperature lows will be in the mid 80's all weekend, but the humidity on Saturday and Sunday will make it feel near 100 degrees on both days in the mid afternoons around 3 pm. The winds will range from 5 - 10 mph all weekend.

Jamaica JAMS Fest, Ecuadorian Parade, Queens Boro Dance Fest, Beaches Open & NYC Public Outdoor Pools Open

Friday & Saturday, July 31 & August 1, 2026 from 6 to 10 pm Friday & from 11 am to 7 pm Saturday - Jamaica JAMS Music Festival & the Jamaica JAMS street fair - On Friday the music festival is on the great lawn of Rufus King Park along 89th Avenue between 150th and 153rd Streets. On Saturday the street fair runs along Jamaica Avenue from Parsons Blvd to 169th Street. Music, food, entertainment and street shopping. The biggest street fair in Queens with a lot of music and entertainment mixed in. JAMS stands for Jamaica Arts & Music Summer. Jamaica JAMS is partly in Rufus King Park is at 153rd Street and Jamaica Avenue in the Jamaica neighborhood of Queens NYC. For details see - https://www.jamaicajams.nyc

The photo above or at right was taken a few weeks ago, while crossing over Sunnyside Yard in Queens. The vast expanse will one day be covered over with platforms, as was done in Midtown around Grand Central Station and along Park Avenue. The billionaire and other wealthy real estate developers have been - dare I say buying - our City Council members' loyalty with campaign funding etc., so that they may one day reap a huge profit, after they replace Mayor Mamdani, who they don't own, as they take over the air rights to this huge plot of land. This is one of the reasons why the wealthy supported Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo for Mayor, and it's one of the reasons why the billionaire press will never give Mamdani a break.

Sunday, August 2, 2026 assembly at 11 am and kick off at 12 noon to 3 pm - The Ecuadorian Parade or Desfile Ecuatoriano New York - The parade kicks off at 12 noon at 68th Street and Northern Blvd in Jackson Heights and marches east to 89th Street in Corona. In prior years the parade was followed by an after party near where the parade ended but UNCONFIRMED FOR 2026. St fairs in Corona Queens. All of the outdoor events and farmers markets makes staying in the city on weekends far more interesting and less complicated, than traveling to places like the Hamptons, like the wealthy like to do. It also saves gas money.

Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 10 am to 4 pm - Flea, Artisan & Collectibles Market - at Brady Court Community Center on 768 Brady Avenue [Antin & Holland Avenue] in the Pelham Parkway neighborhood. Free entry. Dozens of vendors selling flea, arts and crafts and collectibles. Also meet artisans, have your tarot cards read and enjoy food, desserts and beverages. Friday, July 31 & Saturday, August 1, 2026 from 6 to 9 pm and beginning at 3 pm respectively - SummerStage Hip Hop & GhanaFest - at the amphitheater which is south of the tennis center at 1700 Crotona Avenue at Claremont Parkway. Crotona Park is located between the Claremont and Tremont neighborhoods in the central part of the Bronx. GhanaFest is on Saturday and Hip Hop Appreciation Jam is on Friday. Free.
