10.2.26 _ Sunrise 6.53 / 46 am. Sunset 6.36 / 47 pm. We're getting 11 hours & 43 minutes of sunlight, or two hours and 30 minutes more of sunlight than we were getting the week of the Winter Solstice, on December 21, 2025 when the sun rose at 7.18 am and the sun set at 4.31 pm. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of this year, providing 9 hours and 13 minutes of sunlight in NYC. We lost 19 minutes of sunlight in a day this past week.
10.2.26 _ NYC Weather Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts. You can spend a minute here, reading what you need to know to plan your weekend, or spend a half hour each day getting all kinds of tangential weather information you don't really need to know, by watching the weather on TV, and still not learn what you need to know, to navigate the weather of the upcoming weekend.
Precipitation. Friday evening around 5 pm, there's a 40% chance of less than 1/10th inch of rain. By 7 pm the threat of rain is gone [14%]. On Sunday, likewise, there's about a 50% chance of about 1/10th inch of rain around 3 - 4 pm, and again, by 7 pm, the threat begins diminishing, but unlike Friday - not gone.
Temperature. The temperature highs will decline from the mid 80's Friday to the low 70's Saturday to the high 60's Sunday. The temperature lows will decline from the mid 60's on Friday to the low 60's the rest of the weekend.
Humidity. The humidity drops from 100% early Friday to 40% at the end of the workday, rises to 80% on Saturday morning, falling to 50% by Saturday afternoon, and then rises to 90% Sunday morning before falling back to 70% Sunday afternoon.

Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 11 am to 5 pm - 66th Annual Nigerian Independence Day Parade & Carnival - the parade begins at 11 am [unconfirmed] along 2nd Avenue at 54th Street and marches south to 44th Street, where they'll have an after party that begins at 1 pm [traditionally in Dag Hammarskjold Plaza at 2nd Avenue and East 46th Street]. Ongoing _ Saturdays & Sundays, August 29 - November 1, 2026 from 11 am to 4 pm - the Amazing Maize Maze - at the Queens County Farm at 73-50 Little Neck Parkway in Floral Park. Killmeyers is one of the oldest restaurants in NYC, dating back to the 1850's, and also a Staten Island Oktoberfest favorite. Staten Island celebrates Oktoberfest at Killmeyers and in multiple other locations each year. See details below.
