9.25.26 _ Sunrise 6.46 am. Sunset 6.47 pm. We're getting 12 hours & 1 minute of sunlight, or two hours and 48 minutes more of sunlight than we were getting the week of the Winter Solstice, on December 21, 2025 when the sun rose at 7.18 am and the sun set at 4.31 pm. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of this year, providing 9 hours and 13 minutes of sunlight in NYC. We lost 19 minutes of sunlight in a day this past week.

9.25.26 _ NYC Weather - NYC Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts. This weekend we are expecting 2 3/4 inches of rain spread over the entire Saturday / Sunday time period. This translates to a moderate amount of rainfall - about 0.06 inches per hour - so keep that in mind while watching Weather Scares on billionaire TV News. The rainfall itself may cause problems along the coastline and in areas with poor drainage, but otherwise the rainfall - itself - shouldn't be a big deal this weekend. But be advised to pay attention to the date shown which you can adjust using the grey buttons provided at the end of the hourly rows for the day.

The winds are another matter, as on Saturday and Sunday the winds will range from 15 - 25 mph, possibly with gusts of up to 55 mph, which can cause damage to vulnerable / weak trees and power lines. So it's a somewhat wet windy weekend, where you have to watch for gusts, and depending on when you're out, possible scattered downpours.

The temperature highs and lows will both be in the low 60's, except for Friday when the high hits the low 70's. The humidity will rise from about 40% midday Friday, to about 90% Saturday, and to 95% on Sunday in keeping with the wet drizzly weather. Use the radar weather map to check conditions before you head out, as the storm could come further inward than currently forecast. But it could also stay further away too. So manage accordingly, as there are a lot of fun things to do this weekend, should you dare to be venturesome.

The high winds this weekend, ranging from 15 - 25 mph, with gusts of over 50 mph, make this a particularly bad weekend to fly. And that doesn't include the major snafu at Newark Liberty International Airport earlier this week, where an equipment outage caused hundreds [about 800] of flight cancellations and caused about 9,500 delays nationwide.

Thursday - Sunday, September 17 - 27, 2026 event times vary - The 100th Annual Feast of San Gennaro Festival & Parade. This is an 11 day Italian festival that runs through Sunday, September 27th in Little Italy in Manhattan. There are events every afternoon / evening of the festival. It begins at 6 pm on Thursday 9/17/26 with the Blessing of the Stands. On Saturday, 9/19 from 2 to 4 pm there's a parade / procession through Little Italy [see Shrine Church of the Most Precious Blood]. Friday, 9/25 there are Italian vocalist musical performances from 3 to 9 pm. On Saturday from 2 to 4 pm there's a procession through the streets of Little Italy, departing from the Shrine Church of the Most Precious Blood at 113 Baxter Street [this is usually preceded by a church service but I didn't see any mention this year [2026]. Friday, September 25, 2026 from 6 to 9 pm - Queens Boro Dance Festival - at Hunters Point South Park in Long Island City. They describe the event as follows: "...for all ages featuring 3 Queens DJs spinning Latin/Top 40, Hip-Hop, and House music, with a special nod to Queens-based musical artists. The photo above or at right, was taken in a prior year in McCarren Park in the Greenpoint neighborhood of Brooklyn. Working with nature is oftentimes one of the most effective and most economical means to combat some of the disruptive actions of climate change by absorbing and buffering massive amounts of water. This weekend NYC itself is supposed to receive about 3 inches of rainfall, over a two day period, which is moderate - not heavy. But the high winds, in tandem with the ocean or other bodies of water, can wreak more significant havoc in the communities adjacent to them.

We're getting 12 hours & 20 minutes of sunlight, or three hours and 7 minutes more of sunlight than we were getting the week of the Winter Solstice, on December 21, 2025 when the sun rose at 7.18 am and the sun set at 4.31 pm. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of this year, providing 9 hours and 13 minutes of sunlight in NYC.

9.18.26 _ NYC Weather - NYC Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts. The weekend is dry except for Sunday. On Sunday in the morning there's a 40% to 50% of some precipitation, but it's the afternoon through the evening where there's a 65% to 85% chance of about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rain expected to fall [and it's worth mentioning that the estimated rainfall amount has fallen by about a third in the past 24 hours - likely due to the dry atmosphere caused by climate change]. The temperature highs will be in the low 80's Friday, descending to the low 70's for the rest of the weekend, while the temperature lows will be in the mid 70's Friday, descending into the mid 60's for the rest of the weekend. The humidity will drop from nearly 100% Friday morning to about 50% by mid afternoon; rising again to about 70% Saturday morning, before dipping back into the 50% range Saturday afternoon / evening; and then the humidity will rise to 80% Sunday morning, and continue climbing to near 100% by the end of Sunday. The winds will be in the 5 - 10 mph range all weekend.

A day full of activities for everyone including games, mural painting and musical performances. There will be food vendors there too. Free. We're getting 12 hours & 39 minutes of sunlight, or three hours and 26 minutes more of sunlight than we were getting the week of the Winter Solstice, on December 21, 2025 when the sun rose at 7.18 am and the sun set at 4.31 pm. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of this year, providing 9 hours and 13 minutes of sunlight in NYC.

9.11.26 _ NYC Weather - NYC Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts. About 2/3 inch of rain is forecast for Sunday morning between 3 am and 1 pm, otherwise the rest of the weekend is dry. The temperature highs will be in the low 80's all weekend, while the temperature lows will be around 70. The humidity will reach the low 40's Friday afternoon; rise to about 80% on Saturday morning, before dipping back into the 50% range Saturday afternoon / evening; and then the humidity will rise to 100% in tandem with the rain Sunday morning, before falling back into the 80% range later on Sunday. The winds will be in the 5 mph range on Friday and Sunday, kicking up to 5 to 10 mph Saturday. All in all, it looks to be a fairly good weekend, Sunday morning excepted.

There's a resource fair at the Surrogate Court which they describe as, "... connecting veterans, service members, military families and members of the broader military-affiliated community with resources and services. Attendees will have access to information and support related to housing, mental health, health care, benefits, financial assistance, community engagement and other essential services. The fair will make these resources more accessible and easier to navigate for those who have served and their families ...". Free. All are welcome. Organized by the NY Road Runners. Discontinued Since 2023 _ Village _ the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit. The show used to run along University Avenue from 13th Street down to Washington Square South in Manhattan. Sadly, after 92 years, this Village staple announced it would not be returing in the Spring of 2024. What's worse is that pretty close to nobody took notice to commemorate it. Sunday through Sunday, August 30 to September 13, 2026 daily beginning at 11 am & 7 pm - the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament at Arthur Ashe Stadium in the USTA Complex - in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The gates open 1.5 hours before game time in the morning and an hour before game time in the evening. They sell grounds passes for as little as $30, but you have to search pretty hard for those [check Saturday 9.12. 26 while they last], and tournament tickets ranging from about $200 to $2,919. There are also luxury box tickets too, which I didn't look into, as most have already been sold at prices most normal folks wouldn't even contemplate. The photo was taken a couple of years ago from the Staten Island Ferry heading south to the Island.

Saturday, September 12, 2026 beginning at 11 am VIP and General Admits at 12 noon to 4 pm - 17th Annual Pig Island Festival - at Snug Harbor Cultural Center. Last year they described it as follows, "... this pork-laden festival [includes 20 chefs who] compete for the most delicious porcine dishes. There will also be craft beer, hard cider, spirits and other food offerings – all-included with a general admissions ticket ... ". This year they talked about all of the different BBQ flavors. We're getting 12 hours & 57 minutes of sunlight, or three hours and 44 minutes more of sunlight than we were getting the week of the Winter Solstice, on December 21, 2025 when the sun rose at 7.18 am and the sun set at 4.31 pm. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of this year, providing 9 hours and 13 minutes of sunlight in NYC.

9.4.26 _ NYC Weather - NYC Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts. No precipitation is in the forecast. The temperature highs will be in the high 70's / low 80's all weekend. The temperature lows will be in the low 70's, until Monday when it falls to the mid 60's. The humidity will reach the low 80's on Saturday and Monday mornings, rising in between on Sunday morning to the mid 90's. During the day the humidity will fall into the 50% range on Saturday and Sunday, and down into the 40% range on Monday. The winds will be in the 5 mph range all weekend. All in all, it looks to be a very nice weekend.

Discontinued Since 2023 _ Village _ the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit. The show used to run along University Avenue from 13th Street down to Washington Square South in Manhattan. Sadly, after 92 years, this Village staple announced it would not be returing in the Spring of 2024. What's worse is that pretty close to nobody took notice to commemorate it. We did a report on it which you may view by clicking into the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit closes in Spring 2024 after 92 years. Tuesday, September 8th, 2025 beginning at 4.30 pm - AFLCIO Labor Day Rally & Procession in Manhattan. They assembly begins at 4.30 pm and the rally and procession begins at 5 pm. They meet at One Liberty Plaza along Liberty Street between Church and Broadway. They want to honor the workers of September 11, 2001. I believe this replaces the parade they have done in prior years that marches along 5th Avenue from 44th Street in Midtown to 64th Street on the UES [but unconfirmed]. Sunday through Sunday, August 30 to September 13, 2026 daily beginning at 11 am & 7 pm - the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament at Arthur Ashe Stadium in the USTA Complex - in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The gates open 1.5 hours before game time in the morning and an hour before game time in the evening. They sell grounds passes for as little as $30, but you have to search pretty hard for those [check Saturday 9.12. 26 while they last], and tournament tickets ranging from about $200 to $2,919. There are also luxury box tickets too, which I didn't look into, as most have already been sold at prices most normal folks wouldn't even contemplate. West Indian Day Parade, J'ouvert and related Celebrations, Artists & Flea Markets, Fireworks Luna Park Coney Island & Outdoor Swim Pools & Beaches Open

The photo above or at right was taken a couple of years ago at the West Indian American Day Parade in Brooklyn. Notice how these women dressed very casually, as the custom of throwing water and colors on folks can and does happen at the parade and related celebrations. So be advised, dress accordingly, and take precautions to protect things that water and colors don't mix well with. And have some fun.

• All Weekend / Monday, September 7, 2026 assembling at 10 am / kicking off at 11 am / ending at 5.30 pm - 59th Annual West Indian American Day Parade and Carnival. There are events related to the parade going on all weekend [see below**]. The parade begins at 11 am on Labor Day, Monday September 7th starting near along Eastern Parkway at Rochester Avenue in Crown Heights, then heading west toward Grand Army Plaza in Prospect Park, where the parade ends. The event runs approximately from 10 am - 6 pm and you'll also find food stalls and shopping along along Eastern Parkway in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn.
• ** There are multiple events over the weekend. See their website at the end of this paragraph for added details. The most notable other event occurs on Monday, beginning at 2.22 am or 6 am, depending on how far you want to take this. The event is called J'ouvert [French for 'day break'] begins in Grand Army Plaza, followed by the parade gathering at 10 am and stepping off at 11 am. Dress wearing things you don't mind getting wet and painted, which is an Indian tradition that is a part of the celebration. Also you should take precautions to protect your phone and any other valuables or technologies from the celebratory water and paint.
