Sunrise 6.58 am. Sunset 5.21 pm. We're getting one hour and ten minutes more of sunlight than we were getting the week of the Winter Solstice, on December 21, 2025 when the sun rose at 7.18 am and the sun set at 4.31 pm. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of this year, providing 9 hours and 13 minutes of sunlight in NYC.
NYC Weather - NYC Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts. On Friday the temperature high will be in the mid 30's and the temperature low will be in the low 20's. Saturday early morning, the temperature will descend from a temperature high of about 30 degrees, to the low single digits. Sunday the temperature high will be about 20 and the low also in the low single digits. It warms up a bit from that on Monday and then temperature highs rise above freezing for the rest of the week. There's a 50% chance, of less than an inch of snow, in the forecast for Friday night / Saturday morning. The humidity will fall from 55% - 75% on Friday, to 45% - 60% on Saturday to 40% on Sunday. NYC Weather - NYC Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts.
They're forecasting 5.5 inches of snow Sunday [or rain equivalent], but - if it's snow - it won't last long as in the days that follow, the temperatures will be above freezing during the day, and starting Wednesday above freezing all day.
On Friday the temperature high will be in the mid 30's all day. On Saturday, the temperature highs will rise to the high 40's and then gradually fall to about 40, where it will remain most of Sunday / Monday - which is why I don't think it's going to be snow on Sunday, but rather rain [see above]. The humidity will be near 100% Friday, fall to 50% by afternoon Saturday and then rise back up to the 80% - 90% range on Sunday. The winds will be about 15 mph Friday, dropping to 5 mph Saturday and then climbing during the day on Sunday, culminating in 20 mph winds late Sunday night.

The photo above or at right shows Staten Island Ferry passengers looking toward the New Jersey port, where huge cargo carrying freighters unload their goods. Most of Trump's chaotic tariffs levied in 2025, were deemed illegal by the Supreme Court today, as it turns out the tariffs are - in essence - taxes levied upon Americans [studies show that upwards of 90% of tariffs are paid for by U.S. citizens]. Our Founding Fathers were wise to allocate that responsibility to Congress. But unfortunately the current legislative leadership team is unbelievably weak. And since Trump took office in January of 2025 the Senate and House leadership, has mostly failed to do its job, by allowing Trump unimpeded free reign vis-a-vis economic, military, and legal matters.

Sunday, March 1, 2026 beginning at 12.30 pm - Staten Island St Patricks Day Parade - lines up between Victory and Hart Blvds along Forest Avenue [adjacent to Silver Lake Park] and marches west along Forest Avenue to Jewett Street. The photo above or at right, shows an excited Staten Island St. Patrick's Day Parade attendee in a prior year. The parade returns, with a small adjustment regarding where to line up, due to the heavy snowfall [on Forest Avenue from Hart to Victory Blvd].
