Wednesday, August 23, 2023 is the UNESCO Slavery Remembrance Day. UNESCO created the day in 1988, and it was first observed in Haiti in 1998, followed by Senegal in 1999. Slavery Remembrance Day is not just about remembering the horrors of slavery and honoring its victims; it is also about working to ensure the system of racism that caused slavery is abolished completely in today’s world.
