The photo at right was taken in the FiDi neighborhood in Downtown Manhattan NYC a few years ago. I find it amusing because it's life imitating art, and art imitating life.

10.16.26 _ Sunrise 7.08 am. Sunset 6.14 pm. We're getting 11 hours & 6 minutes of sunlight, or one hours and 53 minutes more of sunlight than we were getting the week of the Winter Solstice, on December 21, 2025 when the sun rose at 7.18 am and the sun set at 4.31 pm. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of this year, providing 9 hours and 13 minutes of sunlight in NYC. We lost 18 minutes of daily sunlight this past week.

10.16.26 _ NYC Weather Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts. You can spend a minute here, reading what you need to know to plan your weekend, or spend a half hour each day getting all kinds of tangential weather information you don't really need to know, by watching the weather on TV - and still not learn what you need to know, to navigate the weather of the upcoming weekend.

Precipitation. Saturday morning, between midnight and 5 am there's an 85% chance of about 1/10th inch of rain, which means it's pretty light over that time period.

starting between 7 and 11 am [9 am is the midpoint] rain will begin falling. About 1.4 inches is expected, over the entire day, which pegs the rainfall rate at the low end of moderate, which means you can still use some / good portion of the day if you don't mind carrying an umbrella. Excluding the wee hours of Monday morning, the rest of the three day weekend is precipitation free.

Temperature. The temperature highs will fall to the mid to high 50's on Saturday and Sunday, down from the mid 70's on Friday. The temperature lows will fall from about 60 on Friday, down to the low 30's on Saturday and Sunday.

Humidity. The humidity will swing from as high as 100% on Friday, down into the high 30's by Saturday night, rising to about 70% on Sunday morning, then returning to the high 30% range Sunday afternoon, before rising to about the 70% range by Sunday night.

Wind. The winds will range from 5 to 10 mph on Friday and Sunday, rising to between 10 - 16 mph on Saturday.

Saturday, October 24 - November 1, 2026 - Early Voting in NYC. There are also five ballot questions, which I have never liked, because I think they are rarely / never properly vetted / communicated about to the voters. We'll try to have more about them over the weekend. For Voting Locations & Times details, see - https://www.vote.nyc/all-important-dates | Here's the Mayor's Office statement on the Ballot Issues which I've not yet reviewed, nor analyzed - https://www.nyc.gov/content/organize/pages/fast | I see lots of things on social media about them, again which I've not studied, but hope to by the coming weekend.
- On the voting in general - I recommend generally voting for Democrats at the federal level this year, as the Republican Senators and Congress[wo]men have failed the public by not asserting their right and duty to check the presidential exercise of power. This failure has had damaging consequences for the nation in both the short term and long term.
- Lastly, Edmund Burke, an 18th century Irish / English Parliamentarian said that, "All it takes for Evil to succeed, is for enough good [wo]men to do nothing." Please do your homework on the candidates and then go vote. Many / most of the TV attack ads are funded by the billionaires seeking to manipulate voter perceptions, in order to get voters to elect the billionaire's favored pols, who will continue working for them - not us.

The photo above or at right, was taken in the Fordham neighborhood of the Bronx in September of an earlier year. The warm weather lasted longer this year, but appears to be winding down, starting this weekend. We saw temperatures hit the 80's this month, which is unusual.

It's about an historic figure associated with the mansion, Samuel Pell, a Captain in the Continental Army, who is engaged to a woman whose parents are British sympathizers. What to do? We are fortunate to have become a home to so many different cultures, because we can learn and enjoy the cultures and cuisines from around the world, without paying airfares, lodging and flying to distant parts of the world. And in NYC, the members of the many ethnic groups from around the world, also speak English, so they can explain things about their cultures in an easy to understand conversation, as they know both cultures and so are in a unique position to enhance understanding by doing cultural translations.

Things To Do This Weekend & Next Week in Manhattan NYC

Comic Con, Columbus Day Parade, NY Film Fest ending, Mrs. Stern Wanders the Prussian Library, A Home Worth Fighting For [Film]

The photo above or at right was taken earlier this week at a screening to the film entitled, A Home Worth Fighting For. The documentary, produced by a local film maker, examines how public housing has been privatized in both Chicago and New York City. And Related Companies is at the heart of matters, in both of these two major cities. Chicago was something of a disaster, in part because of decisions made by Related Companies, and the film carries warnings to New Yorkers about what could possibly lie ahead. This past week a Court Ordered halt to evictions in the NYCHA complex in Chelsea expired, as Related Companies is pushing to evict the remaining elderly and minority residents who are blocking it from the takeover. Related Companies efforts to privatize the complex appear to have been riddled with deceit, falsehoods and deception, which is part of my takeaway from / opinions based on the film. Related Companies appears to support / fund politicians who help them privatize public assets, which thus far appear to have greatly enriched both Related Companies and its billionaire founder, Stephen Ross. Why don't you hear about this in billionaire controlled TV News? Because TV News doesn't do much real news any more.

Thursday - Sunday, October 8 to 11, 2026 from 10 am to 7 pm daily except Sunday when it ends at 5 pm - Comic Con returns to the Javits in Manhattan. At the Javits Center at 655 West 34th / 36th Street at 11th Avenue in West Midtown. Comic Con is a convention of fans of comic book characters and has morphed to include movie characters. 10.2.26 _ Sunrise 6.53 / 46 am. Sunset 6.36 / 47 pm. We're getting 11 hours & 43 minutes of sunlight, or two hours and 30 minutes more of sunlight than we were getting the week of the Winter Solstice, on December 21, 2025 when the sun rose at 7.18 am and the sun set at 4.31 pm. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of this year, providing 9 hours and 13 minutes of sunlight in NYC. We lost 19 minutes of sunlight in a day this past week.

10.2.26 _ NYC Weather Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts. You can spend a minute here, reading what you need to know to plan your weekend, or spend a half hour each day getting all kinds of tangential weather information you don't really need to know, by watching the weather on TV, and still not learn what you need to know, to navigate the weather of the upcoming weekend.

Precipitation. Friday evening around 5 pm, there's a 40% chance of less than 1/10th inch of rain. By 7 pm the threat of rain is gone [14%]. Humidity. The humidity drops from 100% early Friday to 40% at the end of the workday, rises to 80% on Saturday morning, falling to 50% by Saturday afternoon, and then rises to 90% Sunday morning before falling back to 70% Sunday afternoon.

Saturday, October 3, 2026 from 10 am to 4 pm - Flea, Artisan & Collectibles Market - at Brady Court Community Center on 768 Brady Avenue [Antin & Holland Avenue] in the Pelham Parkway neighborhood. Free entry. Dozens of vendors selling flea, arts and crafts and collectibles. Also meet artisans, have your tarot cards read and enjoy food, desserts and beverages. Sunday, October 4, 2026 - from 8 am to 4 pm - 32nd Annual Tour de Bronx Bike Ride - begins at 161st Street and Grand Concourse and bicycles up to the New York Botanical Garden. The program includes a 10 mile, 25 mile and 40 mile long route, which kick off at 10 am, 10.15 am & 10.30 am respectively. Free, but you check in before departing to obtain a numbered bib. Oktoberfest, Egptian Festival & Markets

The photo above or at right, taken in a prior year, shows a Bavarian style restaurant, Killmeyers Old Bavaria Inn, which also has an outdoor beer garden on Staten Island NYC. Killmeyers is one of the oldest restaurants in NYC, dating back to the 1850's, and also a Staten Island Oktoberfest favorite. Staten Island celebrates Oktoberfest at Killmeyers and in multiple other locations each year. See details below.

Saturday & Sunday, October 3 & 4, 2026 from 11 am to 8 pm - Final Weekend of the Annual Egyptian Festival at the Archangel Michael & St. Mena Coptic Orthodox Church at 4095 Amboy Road in the Great Kills neighborhood of Staten Island.
