Things to do This Weekend in NYC & Boros

Events & Things to do This Weekend / Week in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx & Staten Island Events - Details Below

things to do nyc this weekend events nyc manhattan queens brooklyn bronx staten island nyc weekend eventsJuly 17, 2026 / NYC Neighborhoods / NYC Things To Do Events / News Analysis & Opinion / Gotham Buzz NYC.

Sunrise 5.40 am. Sunset 8.23 pm. We're getting 14 hours & 43 minutes of sunlight, or five hours and 30 minutes more of sunlight than we were getting the week of the Winter Solstice, on December 21, 2025 when the sun rose at 7.18 am and the sun set at 4.31 pm. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of this year, providing 9 hours and 13 minutes of sunlight in NYC.

NYC Weather - NYC Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts. There's a 60% chance of one and a half inches of rain being dropped Saturday sometime beginning around 11 am and running through to about midnight. But Sunday, it's dry, not so humid and what should be a comfy 80 degrees. The temperature highs will be in the low 80's and the temperature lows will be in the low 70's all weekend. The winds will range from 5 - 10 mph on Saturday and Sunday. The humidity will be mostly in the 100% range Saturday falling on Sunday into the 40% range in the afternoon, before rising back into the 70's Sunday night. Looks to be a half nice weekend, weatherwise.

The photo above or at right was taken within the past couple of weeks in Manhattan on the east side looking west along 42nd Street [or thereabouts].

Angelson Theater - at 136 East 13th Street between 3rd & 4th Avenues in the Village of Manhattan NYC [home of the Classic Stage Company]. The photo above or at right was taken within the past couple of weeks, across the East River from the United Nations, on the Queens side. The United Nations is one of my favorite buildings in NYC. Not because of the architecture, so much as because of what it symbolizes, which is world dialogue. Two U.S. Presidents were instrumental in getting the organization up and running. Most recently, one U.S. president has been working hard to destroy it - along with attempting to destroy a lot of other American institutions as well as historic and culturally significant buildings. Our institutions have incurred signifiicant damage, because too many of those to whom 'We The People' have entrusted with the power of the people, aren't properly nor effectively using it. And it's not just the Republicans, as you could easily list the Democratic Party Leadership at the federal level, as co-enablers.

The photo above or at right was taken in the subway system within the past two to three weeks. NYC and other city subways are often featured in movies. Why? Because there is something inherently interesting, about spending time with [aka riding alongside] people from around the world. Sometimes it feels like a penal sentence, and other times like a party, but most times neither. I think most folks tend to block from their consciousness the shared experience of riding the subway.

Events & Things to do This Weekend / Week in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx & Staten Island Events - Details Below

things to do nyc this weekend events nyc manhattan queens brooklyn bronx staten island nyc weekend eventsJuly 10, 2026 / NYC Neighborhoods / NYC Things To Do Events / News Analysis & Opinion / Gotham Buzz NYC.

The photo at right was taken in Midtown at 42nd Street and 2nd Avenue of the back end [northeast corner] of the Pfizer Building where at least two steel beams / columns buckled on the 21st floor, leading to a cave in of floors 21 - 26. A real estate development group was in the process of adding 19 stories to the Pfizer Building in a commercial to residential conversion. In 2025, the develoment group was cited for multiple building / construction violations, after which the Adams Administration's DOB gave the development group the green light to proceed. The DOB is believed to be one of the most corrupt bureaucracies in the NYC municipal government [the NYPD and NYCHA are believed to be competitors for the top spot]. And while thus far, billionaire TV News has said nothing about possible corruption, I'm not discounting the probability to any number even remotely near zero, given the calamity associated with any serious wrongdoing. This photo was taken on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 before 8 pm and the evacuations occurred earlier in the day. Here's a link to some of the background on the development group and their history - https://therealdeal.com/new-york/2026/07/07/meet-the-developers-behind-the-pfizer-building-conversion/ and here's a link to some of the background on the DOB - https://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/23/nyregion/23buildings.html

things to do nyc this weekend events nyc manhattan queens brooklyn bronx staten island nyc weekend eventsThe photo above or at right was taken this week as I made my way through Grand Central Terminal after shooting some photos of the unstable Pfizer Building in Midtown. In the photo are a number of tourists trying to figure their way around. Manhattan is the locus of a lot of activity, from financial to media to tourism. Foreign tourism to the U.S. and NYC has been down significantly since Trump returned to the Oval Office in 2025. Last year foreign tourism was down in the mid single digits; and this year it's trending even worse, in spite of the U.S. playing host to the World Cup.

no casino protest at the shea stadium big apple statue at citifield june 2026The photo above or at right was taken a week ago Friday [7/3/26] when the parade of TALL SHIPS / SMALL SHIPS made its way down the East River. See photo and caption that follows for the full story.

Monday - Sunday, July 6 - 12, 2026 beginning at various time - the Unisphere Film Festival - at the Court Square Theater at 44-02 23rd Street in Long Island City. A showcase for local film makers. For details and $20 tickets see - https://unispherefilmfestival.com. Sunday, July 12, 2026 from 12 noon to 3 pm - Peruvian Day Parade - along 37th Avenue marching from 69th to 89th Streets. Queens parades and street fairs in Jackson Heights / Corona.

Flushing / Corona _ Saturdays beginning April 18, 2026 from 4 pm to 12 midnight - Queens Night Market - at the NY Hall of Science at 47-01 111th Street in Flushing Meadows Corona Park in the Corona neighbohood of Queens. When I zoom in, as in the photo above, the boats seem large enough, but when you see what we saw in this photo, you can see that the ships looked about the size of a toy boat, that one might might find floating in the Conservatory Water pool, alongside the Kerbs Boathouse, near the Alice in Wonderland sculpture in Central Park. See the headline above and eventually a description of an event below being held at the museum on Saturday.

Sunrise 5.29 am. Sunset 8.30 pm. We're getting 15 hours & 1 minute of sunlight, or five hours and 46 minutes more of sunlight than we were getting the week of the Winter Solstice, on December 21, 2025 when the sun rose at 7.18 am and the sun set at 4.31 pm. The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of this year, providing 9 hours and 13 minutes of sunlight in NYC.

NYC Weather - NYC Can Differ Slightly / Significantly vs TriState TV News Forecasts. There's a 40% chance of 1/10th inch of rain being dropped after 9 pm Friday, and 1/4 inch of rain being dropped Saturday sometime after 4 pm into Saturday night. And there's a 60% chance of over 1/3 inch of rain Sunday, beginning sometime in the afternoon. The temperature highs will be around 100 on Friday & Saturday, falling to 85 on Sunday. The temperature lows will be in the mid 80's Friday and Saturday, falling to the high 70's on Sunday. The winds will range from 4 - 7 mph on Friday and Saturday, then levelling off at 4 mph on Sunday. And the humidity is going to swing from the high 40% range Friday and Saturday to the high 70% range, and then jumping to between the mid 50% to the low 90% range on Sunday.
