Things to do This Weekend in NYC & Boros

First Weekend of the New Year 2024 - Some of the Top Things to do this Weekend in All Five Boros of NYC

things to do this weekend nyc manhattan brooklyn queens bronx staten island nyc weekend events

January 5, 2024 / NYC Neighborhoods / NYC Things To Do Events / Gotham Buzz NYC.

NYC Weather. Sunrise 7.20 am. Sunset 4.43 pm. The temperature highs will be in the high 30's all weekend. The temperature lows will be around 30 degrees all weekend. The winds will be 5 - 10 mph on Friday and Sunday, rising on Saturday to 15 - 20 mph. The humidity will rise from 45% on Friday, to 70% - 90% on Saturday, falling back a bit to 80% on Sunday. On Saturday, there will be an inch of rain [doubtfully snow in NYC] dropped between 3 pm and 2 am Sunday.

The photo at right was taken on New Years Day, at Coney Island in Brooklyn, as the Polar Bear Club took their annual plunge into the Atlantic Ocean. The weather was in the 40's and, as you can see, it was sunny. I used to think of the event as a bit of insanity, but on this New Years Day, it actually seemed like good fun.

I Survived the Great TV News Weather Noreaster of 2024

In the photo at right, you can see kids enjoying the snow of last weekend, dropped during the TV News '2024 Noreaster'. We were hit with a full 1/8 inch of snow, that only materialized on the rooftops of cooled down vehicles, and even then remained snow for but a brief moment. I reckon the TV News sensationalist hype and weather fear mongering is good for ratings and revenue, but it does nothing for their credibility. Anyone ever hear of Aesop's Fable about the Boy Who Cried Wolf?

  • Click here to read recent OpEds and Editorials on Manhattan Buzz NYC. Broadcast media seem to provide very little real / hard news, which focuses on what's happening in local and state governments. Most half hours of TV & radio broadcasts include weather [5 mins], sports [4 mins], and the rest [10 mins] is generally spent promoting their [TV] celebrities & shows by featuring stories about them, and hyping sensational accidents & crime video - much of which appear regurgitations of social media. The remaining 11 minutes are for ads. Democracy only works if the electorate is involved and informed. One of the reasons our system is cracking, is because traditional media has become deficient in its job of informing, and people have not yet sufficiently changed their media consumption habits to make up the difference. The information is out there, it's just not where it used to be.
