NYC Weather Forecast as of 8.30.24. Sunrise 6.20 am & Sunset at 7.31 pm. Some rain expected Saturday night and early Sunday morning, so it should be a good weekend. Temperatures in the 80's during the day and 70's at night. A gentle breeze and humidity climbs gradually during the weekend, falling again on Monday.
In the photo at right, is one of Historic Richmond Town's finest citizens, doing his thing in the woodwork shop. The man reminded me of, Geppetto, the kind and fatherly woodcarver who created Pinocchio, the fictitious wooden puppet who comes alive.

Sadly, after 92 years, they did their last show in September 2023. The Gracie Square Art Show on the Upper East Side opens next weekend, and is about as close as you're going to get to a comparable alternative.

Friday, August 30, 2024 _ Weekly _ The Last of the Coney Island Weekly Friday night fireworks. The Coney Island fireworks are staged along the Riegelmann Boardwalk at West 12th - West 15th Streets on Coney Island in Brooklyn. The Coney Island fireworks are always held off the beach, and the street coordinates above are generally in the area of the Steeplechase tower in Steeplechase Park [Luna Amusement] on Coney Island in Brooklyn. The photo at right, was taken Friday night 8/30/24, along the Reigelmann Boardwalk on Coney Island. The final fireworks show of the summer was displayed just east of the Steeplechase Tower near Luna Park. Normally the shows are at 9.30 pm in the midst of the summer, but on the last night they began at 10 pm. In the photo you can see the fireworks above and the Luna Park amusement park below.

The historical hike and history tour begins at the Fort Putnam which is now Fort Greene Park at the Visitors Center at Myrtle Avenue and Washington Park, in the northeast quadrant of the park in the Fort Greene neighborhood of Brooklyn NYC. - All Weekend [see below**] / Monday, September 2, 2024 beginning at 10 am - 57th Annual West Indian American Day Parade and Carnival. There are events related to the parade going on all weekend [see below]. The parade begins at 11 am on Labor Day, Monday September 2nd starting near the Children's Zoo in Prospect Park, which is just south of the Grand Army Plaza near the Brooklyn Museum. The parade then marches south through Prospect Park along Flatbush Avenue. At the Flatbush they exit from the Park, the parade turns onto Empire Blvd and heads east to Nostrand, and then turns south ending at Midwood. Almost every site I saw seemed to get this wrong except the NYPD and the Organizers' site. The event runs from 10 am - 6 pm and you'll also find food stalls and shopping along along Eastern Parkway in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn.

- ** There are multiple events over the weekend. On Friday night from 8 pm to 3 am there's Socafest which is live music and some drinks for $75 / $ 150 at the Brooklyn Museum. On Saturday beginning at 7 pm there's a steelpan competition that costs $50, also at the Brooklyn Museum. On Sunday at 3 pm there's an outdoor concert for $70 at the Brooklyn Museum. On Monday, beginning at 6 am, J'ouvert [French for 'day break'] begins in Grand Army Plaza, followed by the parade gathering at 10 am and stepping off at 11 am. This used to run May thru October on the first Sunday, but since the pandemic the season has been shortened and the schedule is no longer the first Sunday of the month, but rather an ad hoc Sunday of each month. We were told that this is the last one of this year.

NYC Weather Forecast as of 8.16.24. Sunrise 6.07 am & Sunset at 7.51 pm. There's a low probability [30% or less] of about a 1/4 inch of rain Saturday evening. Sunday, before noon, there's a better than 50% chance of a 1/2 inch of rain. From about 11 am until about 7 pm, there's less than a 50% chance of 1/4 inch of rain. And then Sunday evening after 7 pm there's a 60% - 80% chance of another 1/2 inch of rain. So Saturday is ok, and Sunday during the middle of day should be mostly ok.
The temperature highs will be in the high 70's on Friday and Saturday, rising to the mid 80's on Sunday. The temperature lows will be in the low 70's all weekend. The humidty will rise from 70% on Friday to 70% - 80% on Saturday to 80% on Sunday. The winds will be 5 - 10 mph all weekend.

NYC Weather Forecast as of 8.2.24. Sunrise 5.54 am & Sunset at 8.09 pm. There will be 3/4 inch of rain falling between 4 pm and 10 pm Friday evening. On Saturday we'll receive about a 1/2 inch of rain beginning around 1 pm and running through the rest of the day - so that means that parts of the afternoon and evening should be just fine. And on Sunday, 1/3 inch of rain will fall between 1 pm and 8 pm, so again, some parts of the afternoon and early evening should be ok. The temperature highs will be in the low 90's on Friday, high 80's on Saturday and mid 80's on Sunday. The temperature lows will be in the mid 70's all weekend. The humidity will rise a bit from 60% - 80% on Friday to 70% - 80% the rest of the weekend. The winds will provide a gentle 5 - 10 mph breeze all weekend.

Fordham _ Saturday, August 3, 2024 from 4 to 10 pm - Bronx Night Market - in Fordham Plaza at East Fordham Road and Third Avenue across from the Metro North Railway Station. This is mostly a food market versus a street fair in the Fordham neighborhood of the Bronx. It returns every first Saturday of the month from April through October 2024. August 3, September 7 and October 5, 2024 remain.
Thursday - Sunday, August 1 - 4, 2024, Thursday from 6 - 10 pm & Friday, Saturday & Sunday from 5 - 11 pm - St Helena Summer Fair [formerly Parish Carnival]. It's an old fashioned summer carnival with rides, games, entertainment, shopping, food, beverages [no alcohol], contests and prizes. At the Church of St. Helena in the Parking Lot at 1315 Olmsted in Parchester, near Castle Hill in the Bronx. Tickets are inexpensive w/ volume discounts.
