Time Change. At 2 am Sunday morning, we move our clocks ahead by an hour to 3 am. Daylight Savings Time kicks in and henceforth the sun sets an hour later and we have more daylight to enjoy ourselves after work.

Weather. Rain and / or snow on Saturday from early morning to late afternoon, with about an inch [if snow] of accumulation expected. The temperature highs will be in the mid 50's on Friday, dropping to the mid 40's on Saturday, and then to the mid 30's on Sunday. The temperature lows will fall from the mid 40's Friday, to the low 20's on Saturday, rising to the low 30's on Sunday. The humidity will rise from 40% to 80% on Friday, falling from 70% to 50% on Saturday and then settling in between 50% - 60% on Sunday. Winds will be 5 - 10 mph Friday, rise to 10 - 20 mph Saturday and fall back a bit to 10 - 15 mph.

In the photo at right you can see folks out and about, near Times Square, on an unusually warm Sunday evening, when temperatures topped 70 degrees the first weekend of March 2022.

Things to do in Queens This Weekend

The Museum of the Moving Image is hosting an exhibit that began December 18, 2021 and runs through May 15, 2022 entitled Deepfake: Unstable Evidence on Screen. The exhibit explores how fact becomes distorted and fictionalized via the moving image screen. At the centerpiece of it all is the distortion of the Apollo 11 moon mission. The museum is open Friday from 2 - 8 pm and Saturdays and Sundays from 12 noon - 6 pm. For details and tickets see www.movingimage.us. Admission $15 / $11 / $9.

Things to do in Manhattan This Weekend

A number of exhibits and events that normally happen in Manhattan in March, have been rescheduled to September including the Paper Show, the Armory Show and the Clio Art Fair.

There's an exhibit by African American photographer, Micaiah Carter, entitled Black Beauty Vol. 1, which opened on February 11 and runs through March 27th [from 12 noon - 8 pm Wednesdays through Sundays] in the gallery of SN37 at 204 Front Street in the South Street Seaport. The exhibit is intended to broaden the spectrum of images that Americans have of African Americans.

Things to do in Brooklyn This Weekend

nyc things to do nyc things to do this weekend nycThe Brooklyn Museum at 200 Eastern Parkway has about a dozen exhibits running at present. The two featured exhibits focus on Andy Warhol's Revelation print which explores the artist's religious faith [closes June 2022]. The other is one about Christian Dior entitled Designer of Dreams which includes, "... seventy-year history of the House of Dior with over two hundred haute couture garments as well as photographs, archival videos, sketches, vintage perfume elements, accessories, and works from the Museum’s collection...". The Dior exhibit closes February 20, 2022. Admission is $25 / $16 / $10 and CoVid protocols remain in effect. Details and tickets at www.brooklynmuseum.org.

The 10th Annual Winter Festival in Bay Ridge continues along Third Avenue. It's a collaboration of the Bay Ridge Arts & Cultural Alliance and the Merchants of Third Avenue in Bay Ridge. Participating merchants have provided wall / display space for local artists to exhibit their work. This runs through March 27th.

In the Peter Jay Sharp Building at the Brooklyn Academy of Music aka BAM at 30 Lafayette Avenue in Brooklyn, they will be showing various films all weekend starting at 1.15 pm, with the last showtime at 9.40 pm. CoVid protocols remain in effect and tickets [$16 / $11] may be purchased online at www.bam.org.

The photo at right shows the sentiment of likely a Bronx native about the Russian invasion of the Ukraine. We've done two background reports providing contextual background information of the war. Providing background and context is an important part of reporting the news, and its an area in which the corporate-run, American TV networks seem to fail miserably.

Things to do in the Bronx This Weekend

nyc things to do nyc things to do this weekend nycThe Orchid Show began at the NY Botanical Garden in late February and continues through April.

The Storming of the Capitol exhibit at the Bronx Doc Film Center at 614 Courtlandt Avenue in the Bronx opened Saturday, January 29th and runs through March 20, 2022. The exhibit contains photographs of the attempted coup by the Trump insurrectionists. The Bronx Doc Film hours are Thursday / Friday from 3 - 7 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 1 - 5 pm. See www.bronxdoc.org for details and tickets.

In the photo at right is the juxtaposition of a photo showing Ashli Babbit lying on the floor in the Capitol, with people surrounding her [above], and the reflection of me in the gallery of the exhibit entitled Storming of the Capitol, at the Bronx Doc Film Center. The exhibit runs through next weekend, March 20, 2022.

Things to do on Staten Island This Weekend

At the Staten Island Museum located in the Snug Harbor Cultural Center in the Randall Manor neighborhood is an exhibit entitled Magicicada by Jennifer Angus. The work explores shapes inspired by the Staten Island Museum's cicada collection, which we are told is one of the largest in the world. Cicadas emerge from the ground in large numbers every 13 and 17 years. They cite E.O. Wilson's description of insects as "the little things that run the world". They are open Friday - Sunday from 11 am - 5 pm. Details and $8 tickets at www.statenislandmuseum.org.

St Patrick's Day Parade 2022 in Manhattan

nyc things to do nyc things to do this weekend nycOn Thursday beginning at 11 am, the NYC St Patrick's Day Parade begins on 5th Avenue at 44th Street and marches up to 79th Street. There are generally about 150,000 participants and about two million spectators. Click these links for Irish pub suggestions for each borough.

The photo at right shows one of the four St. Patricks Day Parades held in NYC last weekend. This one was in Sunnyside in Queens, the other three include one held in the Rockaways in Queens, one held in the Westerleigh neighborhood of Staten Island and the fourth in the Throgs Neck neighborhood of the Bronx. There are a handful more between now and the end of the month and we'll keep you posted.

Have nice weekend.
