2026 NYS Federal Election News NYS

New York State Elections, including Federal Senate & Congressional Offices 2026 USA

March 12, 2026 / New York NY / News Analysis & Opinion / NYS Politics & Government USA / Gotham Buzz.

This Section is dedicated to providing our audience with a better understanding of what's going on in NYS politics and government, as well as covering NYS elected officials serving in the federal government.

We will be populating this section with reports going forward, so stay tuned and check back periodically to stay abreast of the 2026 NYS election, politics and government, including Senate and Congressional candidates. As Senator Gillebrand was re-elected in 2024 and Senator Schumer is up for re-election in 2028, there's not likely to be much reporting on NYS Senate candidates. But that said, we are monitoring five races around the nation this year, including that of James Talarico (D) vs Cornyn (R) or Paxton (R) in Texas; Graham Platner (D) vs Mills (D) vs Susan Collins (R) in Maine; Roy Cooper (D) and Michael Whatley (R) in North Carolina; Sherrod Brown (D) vs Jon Husted (R) in Ohio; and Annie Andrews (D) vs Lindsay Graham (R) in South Carolina.

As of this post [March 12, 2026], the Senate is currently comprised of 45 Democrats, with 2 Independents caucasing with them, and 53 Republicans. If the above five states flip, and assuming all else remains unchanged, then Democrats would have 50 votes and could pass legislation with the help of the two independents. And the Republicans would have 48 senators, which is enough to provide a check on things, assuming the current senate traditions are not trashed by Thune and the Republicans this year.
